The Federal Reserve’s relentless attack on inflation is jeopardizing our housing market. The Fed should immediately reverse course and buy mortgage securities to help moderate consumer mortgage rates. This will allow the Fed to raise non-housing interest rates, if necessary, while also allowing the housing market to resume functioning normally again. The central bank raised its key federal funds policy interest rate to a level about 22 times what it was previously in less than 18 months. In normal times, higher Treasury rates, which make mortgages more expensive, divert household income to mortgage payments and away from other purchases, dampen home buyer demand and, ultimately, lower home prices.

When S.S.R.I.s went on the market in the late 1980s, patients began telling their psychiatrists that they were having sexual problems. Initially, doctors were perplexed: As far as they knew, older antidepressants had never come with these issues. Men were much more likely to report sexual side effects to their doctors than women were, even though women are almost twice as likely to be prescribed antidepressants. For some people, the sexual side effects of S.S.R.I.s will show up almost immediately after starting the medications and then resolve. So doctors may suggest waiting four to six months to see whether the sexual effects subside.

Marshals have for the first time released data on how many people were shot by their officers or other police working with them. Marshals Service Director Ronald Davis ordered the review last year, saying it reflects the seriousness of shots fired by officers. The report does not include information on whether the shootings were deemed legally justified nor data on more recent shootings, though it does say that those outlined in the report were independently investigated. The aim was to study policies, training, tactics and equipment to figure out ways to make shootings less likely or destructive in the future, the report released Tuesday states.
